How Much Does Ms. Crumbley’s Conviction for Son’s School Shooting Comfort U.S?

Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of Ethan who killed four classmates at Oxford High School in Michigan in 2021, has been found guilty too for permitting her son’s acts. Her son, Ethan, was already found guilty of four counts of manslaughter. He received a life sentence.

But after the grotesque number of school shootings, and after her son’s guilty verdict his mother Jennifer Crumbley’s, laissez faire approach has been found to be criminal.

Columbine, CO in 1999, Newtown, CT in 2012, and Parkland, FL in 2018. Those are among the most indelible among the place names (too many to count), which Americans remember, connoting tragedy. These represent mass shootings, which have become common.

Somehow, after 25 years of U.S. lawmakers’ refusal and obstruction of more gun safety laws, most Americans are upset and exasperated. The frequency and commonness of this kind of firearm violence sickens most of us who can only observe it. And yet beyond the capacity of reasonable adult comprehension, for many the Second Amendment remains an inviolate pillar of U.S. culture.

Conservatives and rural citizens have undue attraction to firearms. According to Pew Research, those who lean conservative believe that more firearms increases safety. Furthermore, they believe that, even with the macabre and perverse commonness of mass firearm violence, the gun violence laws we have suffice.

To many Americans, the news from 2021 that another youngster had murdered his classmates made many of us sigh, even cry saying, “not again”! non-urban citizens seem to conflate their psyches or identities as Americans with owning firearms. Those of us who were raised without firearms find this to be bizarre, at best.

We, our ideologies, remain at an impossible impasse.

If not justice, then how much comfort will Ms. Crumbley’s conviction provide to Americans? This is up to each of us and our respective tolerance . Few of us know what we can do to remove guns from those who’ll abuses them.
